Boards

  • Building Board

The Building Board consists of volunteers from the congregation who oversee and make decisions about the physical plant. The Building Board's responsibilities include maintaining the building and grounds of the church, supervising the custodial staff, maintaining the columbarium, and acting as a liaison with the Child Care Center regarding custodial and maintenance concerns.

  • Child Care Board

The Child Care Board is primarily responsible for devising and implementing policy for the ACC Child Care Center, located on the lower floor of our church. The 20 members of the Child Care Board comprise volunteer parents from the center and volunteer church members. ACCCCC is a nationally accredited (NAEYC) nursery school and day care center serving about 150 families in Western New York. The Child Care Board is also charged with fund-raising and marketing for the center.

The board meets at church on the second Monday of every month, from September through June. For information, call the Child Care Center at 834-9701.
  • Education Board

The mission of ACC’s Education Board is to support the congregation’s lifelong journey towards understanding God’s word and work and nurture an abiding and deep-seated love for the fellowship of a Christian community.

  • Inreach Board

The work of the Inreach Board is to serve and support the church family, further relationships among members and friends of the church, and encourage members' spiritual growth.

The board is responsible for Sunday coffee hours and monthly birthday cakes, and includes a Membership Committee, a Congregational Concerns Committee, and a Sunshine Committee to minister to those who are ill or recently home from the hospital. The music program also falls under the Inreach Board.

The Congregational Concerns Committee keeps in touch with our members in retirement and nursing homes. A member of the committee goes to see them at least once a month. Homebound people are also contacted in the same way, as well as those with special needs. This group also delivers flowers; any Sunday that the donor of the flowers for the altar chooses to leave them, the flowers are delivered to someone recently returned home from the hospital or who is homebound. After memorial services, the committee arranges and, occasionally, serves refreshments.

  • Outreach Board

The Outreach Board is responsible for making decisions about our financial support of organization and mission projects, as well as initiating hands-on projects that use our members' time and talent in Christian service. We support the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), as well as the local cluster of UCC and Disciples churches, the Western New York Churches in Covenant. In addition, we donate to and otherwise support Vive, Hope House, Western New York Peace Center, the Campus Coalition and other local organizations.

The third Sunday of the month is Food Sunday; the congregation is asked to bring in non-perishable food and place it in collection bins in the narthex. All items are taken to the University Presbyterian Church food pantry or to the food bank at the Council House on Delaware Avenue.

Through the Angel Tree, an annual effort, the congregation fulfills the wishes of children and adults by purchasing Christmas presents for people at Haven House, Vive, Gateway-Longview, PACT Clinic and one or two other groups.

The church also participates in the CROP Walk, a nationwide walk to raise funds against hunger. Twenty-five percent of the money raised is used locally.
  • Ministerial Relations

The Ministerial Relations Committee is an advisory and consultative group that promotes good communications between the minister and the congregation. It's a sounding board for the minister as well as a conduit for concerns and comments that church members wish to convey. This committee also reviews the minister's performance and annual goals, and reviews and recommends compensation.
