The Church Council, elected by the congregation, is the planning and policy-making body of Amherst Community Church. It includes a president, clerk, treasurer, two representatives from each of the five boards (Inreach, Outreach, Education, Child Care and Building), and six at-large members. Also sitting on the Council as non-voting members are the minister and the director of Christian education. Members are elected for one-year terms (clerk), two-year terms (president and board members) or three-year terms (at-large members). Members are installed yearly on June 1.
The Council meets on the first Monday of each month to address current and long-term issues, and concerns of the congregation. It reviews the activities of all boards, committees and task forces involved in the governance of Amherst Community Church.
The Council is also responsible for conducting two congregational meetings each year. A budget meeting is held the first Sunday in October (to adopt a proposed budget for the next fiscal year, beginning Jan. 1, and to receive annual reports from the minister and staff, Council, boards and committees); and the annual meeting on the first Sunday in February (to elect Council members, adopt the annual budget, and conduct any other business that's needed.)
Serving on the Council is a very respected and rewarding experience!
