Who We Are

Amherst Community Church is dually affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Each denomination recognizes two sacraments: Holy Communion and baptism.

The United Church of Christ:

  • Practices infant baptism.
  • Recognizes Christ as the head of the church.
  • The pastor is a member of the congregation.

The Christian Church:

  • Practices infant dedication and reserves baptism for those who make a confession of faith.
  • All members are equal, with Christ the head.

We are an open and affirming church: We welcome gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people as fellow children of God.

Our building is fully accessible to disabled people. There is an elevator near the main entrance off the parking lot.

We strive to make our Christian faith relevant in our daily lives.

We participate in several special offerings through the United Church of Christ. These include the Neighbors in Need fund, the Christmas Fund and One Great Hour of Sharing. Through the blue offering envelopes, we contribute to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund; this is spent, with the knowledge of only the Council president and the pastor, to help church members in time of need.

A set of bylaws outlines what constitutes membership, the function of the Council, the officers of the church, the boards, the Ministerial Relations Committee, the Stewardship Committee and the trustees.
